ICFF

The 2010 ICFF (International Contemporary Furniture Fair) is in full swing this weekend, and we decided to visit some of the showroom parties tonight before we check out the actual fair in the morning. We made the rounds in Soho and hit Flos, Moss, Blu Dot, Cassina, Cappellini, Desiron, Boffi and Poltrona Frau. Whew! Tons of great new contemporary furniture.

New Walt Disney collection at Cappellini. Not many places you could use this...
Cappellini.
Kane and I.
Heather Moore and I at Desiron.
Heather J and I at Desiron.
In an unexpected turn of events we ended up at Milk Gallery in Chelsea for an exhibition of new furniture by Karim Rashid. He was there promoting the new furniture which was pretty cool!

Christian Astuguevieille at Holly Hunt

Holly Hunt has a beautiful trade showroom in New York. Several co-workers and myself attended a wine tasting there yesterday, and I loved seeing all of their new items. They represent so many great lines that it's hard to pick a favorite, but... if you twisted my arm I would pick Christian Astuguevieille. All of his pieces are so creative and whimsical. His material of choice is painted rope wrapped over wood substrates. Very cool.

Old School

Sketches from design school make me smile. In those days you have no idea what to expect from the crazy world, or nutty clients or unbelievable budgets. Here's to pure design and not knowing what to expect in the future!

New Papers at Studio Four

Tres Tintas, Vergel.

Clarissa Hulse Yarrow, Mallow-Mink.

Tres Tintas, Flapatos.
New wallpapers from Studio Four crossed my desk today! The papers above are by Clarissa Hulse and Tres Tintas, both available at Studio Four. I love the floral pattern for an accent wall or powder room. And the chocolate brown and green birds are fun for framed panels in a kid's bedroom or playroom.

Warm Colors

Image from Elle Decor.
The strong red, yellow and orange color scheme in this room is complimented beautifully by the black and white photography and lucite. I can relate to the enormous pile of home magazines in the floor!

A Night Off

Sorry for the absence from the blogging world yesterday! Due to a splitting headache I decided to take the night off. This whole blogging everyday thing is a lot tougher than I thought it would be when I started this little experiment!

I hope all of you are having a wonderful day!

Haru

Image from Haru.
We kicked off the weekend Friday night with dinner at Haru on the upper east side. It was our first time to try it. We were mainly looking for a place where we could eat outside since the weather was so beautiful. But Kane also liked the fact that Haru was the name of Chris Farley's character in Beverly Hills Ninja :) I have to say it was great Japanese food for a cheap and cheerful price. (For New York, that is. Don't get me started on the Japanese food I used to get for $7 at Inoko Express when I was at the University of Georgia. Talk about the good old days).

Clawfoot Shower

Image found via Belle Maison.
I got so excited when I found this shower image. The cast iron clawfoot shower pan is the perfect compromise for someone who wants to stay true to vintage style in their bathroom renovation, but also wants the convenience of a stand-alone shower. And the glass enclosure is always a nice touch. The chair on the other hand...probably not my first choice.

Etsy Finds

I wish I had hours to spend sifting through all of the great stuff on Etsy! These are some of my current favorites.

Image from Jean Pelle on Etsy.
The Bubble Chandelier by Jean Pelle. Each light is made to order in her Brooklyn studio. You can specify whether you want it to be hardwired or plug-in.

Pillow covers by The Home Centric. These are nice for adding a little "jewelry" to a room and the prices are very fair.

Hand-painted ikat cards by Tracery Designs. I love that these are like little works of original art!

Center 44

I attended a fun little design industry event last night at Center 44. It was my first time there, and I like the concept. It's a showroom space that accomodates about 75 antiques and art dealers in a high-end "booth" set-up. Most of the vendors featured at Center 44 have their goods for sale on 1st Dibs as well.

While there, I was reminded of my love for Venini polyhedral glass lighting from the 1960s. There were so many excellent examples of it there! The clear and amethyst color combo (see picture below) is my favorite, but you can also find it in amber and blue glass. There are some more great pieces here and here.

Classic: Suzanne Kasler

Images from Suzanne Kasler.
Atlanta designer Suzanne Kasler has got the right idea. Her 20 years working as a designer have been spent creating rooms that are the definition of classic. Her style seems timeless. And by that I mean you don't walk in and say "oh, this is so 1999," which is always a good thing!

Go to Flourish Design + Style to see her Atlanta workspace. It's inspiring all on it's own.

Weather

Marc by Marc Jacobs from Shop Bop.
After today's heat in New York, I'm ready to break out this lovely suit and shades and hit the pool! Hmmm....do I really need to be at the office tomorrow?

But, a more serious note on the subject of extreme weather - I want to say that my thoughts and prayers go out to all of the Tennesseans whose homes are still under water after the horrible flooding in Nashville and Memphis this weekend. Kane and I are grateful that all of our friends and family are ok!

Environment Furniture

I love the environmentally friendly home furnishings at Environment Furniture. I've bought the Santomer Dining Table (above) for a client. It's absolutely beautiful in person. All of their furniture is made from recycled, reclaimed or repurposed materials. You can't beat that.

Welcome!

My post is a bit light on content this evening. It's been a highly enjoyable weekend, and it flew by too fast. Hardly any time/energy to blog tonight! I just want to be sure to say welcome to Sue from The Zhush. I'm so glad to have you! Everyone be sure to check out Sue's fun blog if you haven't already!

Savoy Bakery

Images from Yelp.
Spanish Harlem is a unique neighborhood to live in in Manhattan. We love all of it's quirks. And, we are SO glad that there is one really great bakery just an avenue away from our little apartment, and on the way to the subway too! It's called the Savoy Bakery. The over-sized pigs in a blanket, cheese danishs and Boylan sodas are to die for.

As a matter of fact, we had them for breakfast today.
