Weekend in Kentucky

I'm spending this weekend in Kentucky with my family. Sorry again about the light posting lately! Between the move and this trip it's been harder than ever to keep up with the blog. We're loading up the U-Haul on Monday, so wish us luck!

It's my cousin Hamilton's 8th birthday this weekend and we had a great little party for her today. Barbeque and cake and presents. You can't go wrong with that.

I hope you're all having a lovely weekend!

A Thoughtful Place to Work

Image found via Tumblr.
I think I could get a lot of work done at this desk. The desk and the chair are both fabulous custom pieces. And the wall color is perfect!! I could do without the fabric on the Roman shades, but hey, nothing's perfect.

I'm looking for orderly things in a chaotic world right now!! My apartment is full of boxes, and Second Ave is undergoing such severe road resurfacing last night and tonight that the whole building is shaking!! Oh my goodness.

Water for Elephants

Image found via Bookfinder.
Everyone please make a point to read this book! I started it 2 days ago and I've barely put it down. It is excellent and the characters are wonderful. Apparently the movie is being made as we speak and it's got some major stars like Reese Witherspoon and Robert Pattinson in it!!

Wall of Polaroids

Image found via Tumblr.
I LOVE this wall covered with polaroid pictures! It's a great installation idea. Especially for anyone in a rental apartment, because scotch tape comes off a heck of a lot easier than wallpaper or paint!

Walk-in Closets!

Image found via Tumblr.
Image found via Decor Pad.
I'm going to have a walk-in closet again for the first time in three years! I'm really inspired by these two closets. The raw wood detail added onto the wire shelving in the first photo is a great touch! The second photo is Paris Hilton's closet. (if you couldn't tell!) All of the mirrored surfaces are a little over the top for me, but it's still glamorous!

Heat Wave

Well, we broke a few heat records today. It was a scorcher in the city. I decided to take a break from packing and check out the new Manhattan Target in Harlem. God I love that store. Of course the first Target in Manhattan opens the week before I move away! :)

I'm off to Brooklyn in the morning to take an underground tour of an old subway station. I'm super excited about it, but of course we scheduled it on what turns out to be the hottest weekend ever!!

Counting Down The Days Until I Have A Terrace

Images from Grandin Road.
There are many other things that we'll need to buy before we spend money on furniture for the terrace, so we'll probably end up with plastic Wal-Mart chairs for now! :) But, I came across a catalog today called Grandin Road that has some pretty great inexpensive outdoor furniture. I've always wanted a retro style steel glider like the one in the first picture!

Classic Style in ATL

Images from Atlanta Homes.
I just fell in love with this Atlanta home, owned by Atlanta Brave Derek Lowe. Interior designer Betty Burgess had free reign to do whatever she liked, as long as she could complete the job in three months. Three months!! Can you believe that? I think she was definitely successful.

Am I lame, or is chalkboard paint pretty cool? Maybe it's a way for me to keep all of my 'notes to self' under control! Hmm... And for kids it's especially great. Have any of you used it?

From Tiny Spaces to Smiling Faces

Image from Tumblr.
As I pack boxes in our tiny apartment, it still hasn't sunk in yet that our new place is going to be twice as big as this one!!

I've missed you all these past few days. I'm back to posting on a regular basis now!

We Must Be Home

After being picked up from the airport yesterday, we were driving through Nashville and saw this mispelled sign. And if you look very closely you can see that the word they were trying to spell is on the black printed sign right below it. It's good to be home! :)

Wish Me Luck!

Wish me luck tomorrow, everyone! We've got a full day of interviews, apartment hunting and car hunting. It's overwhelming but so exciting. Hopefully when this weekend is over we will have the main ingredients to start a new life...I'll let you all know how it works out!

Good Times

Party tonight at Michael Wolfe's with Kane's Sunday softball team. These guys are absolutely great and we're going to miss them a ton! They presented Kane with a trophy of a fireman since he rescued their team, and me with a baseball trophy since I let him play with them!

Big News!

Image found via Flickr.
Well, I hinted last week that I have some big changes going on. Kane and I have decided that after three great years in NYC, we are moving back to Tennessee!! I up and quit my job a couple of weeks ago, which was terrifying but satisfying.

We're relocating to Nashville, which is where we've always wanted to end up once we got New York out of our system.

Don't worry! I'll be posting more than ever after the move and I'm planning on having better content too.

Here's to new beginings and exciting opportunities! I hope that you all stick with me through the transition!

Say Yes

Image found via TLC.
Thanks to wonderful Netflix, I've gotten hooked on TLC's Say Yes To The Dress this weekend. It can be dangerous to flip through the instant feed TV that's free with my Netflix subscription, because there's a chance that I will get totally addicted to something like this! I had a beautiful wedding dress that I absolutely loved, but I guess it's fun to do it all over again vicariously through this show!! Seriously, I've watched a ton of episodes. :)

Breakfast?

Images found via Tumblr.
I think I might cook breakfast a little more often if I were serving it in one of these rooms! After a grueling week, I'm ready for the weekend! I'll be cooking big stacks of pancakes for my breakfast tomorrow!

Everyone have a great weekend!

Can I Please Have This Room?

You all know I'm a sucker for a gorgeous library! This one's pretty great. Not that my collection of books would ever happen to be so perfectly color-coordinated.

I am LOVING this cabinet door detail by Burnham Design. Beautiful, stylish fretwork done right.

Charming Entry

Image found via Tumblr.
This little entry foyer is such a cheerful lovely room! The combination of the fresh tile floor and the white painted doors is excellent. This is going into my style files, for sure!

It's back to the grind in the morning. I hope everyone had a fun and relaxing and/or productive long weekend!

Happy Fourth!

Happy Fourth of July, everyone! I spent a couple of hours this morning trying to catch up on putting our photos into albums. It was funny the way it worked out because I ended up working on our pictures from Fourth of July weekend last year. Now I'm only one year behind!

Now we're heading out to watch the fireworks. I hope everyone is taking advantage of the beautiful day.

Eclipse

Image found here.
I saw the third Twilight movie tonight. It was entertaining, for sure. The movies aren't quite as good as the books, but isn't that always the case?

The jury is still out on whether or not we'll go see the fourth and final one in theaters. I don't know if we can handle that many teenage girls screaming and applauding every couple of minutes! I guess we're getting old. :)

Fourth of July Goodies

Bunting from here.
Vintage boots from here.
Cookies from here.
So, we'll be watching fireworks from our friend's roof in Brooklyn this weekend. I'm super excited about it! We went to the west side fireworks last year and it was a mob scene. Never again! The roof thing is going to be way better.

If I had a terrace and/or roof that was accessible I would want to hang this fabric bunting, wear these boots and attempt to make cookies that resembled this. Hmmm...maybe next year!
