Classic

Image from J. Randall Powers.
This bedroom by J. Randall Powers is classic. It's one of the most beautifully designed bedrooms I've seen in a while. This Houston, TX designer is right on.

Brother Jimmy's

Kane and I went to a charity fundraiser for leukemia tonight at Brother Jimmy's on the upper west side. So much fun. There's nothing like having a good excuse to go to a "southern" bbq place in NYC. It's not quite like the real thing, but they do have really great fried green tomatoes (my favorite) and frickles (Kane's favorite).

Not So Fantastic Mr. Fox

Image from Filmofilia.
In general I try to keep this blog positive. But I must say that I feel a little sad that I just wasted two hours watching this movie. Roald Dahl wrote some great children's books, but I guess I walked away thinking "who thought a movie version of this book was a good idea?"

It's just my modest opinion, which together with a dollar will buy you a Coke:)

Fiesta!

Sometimes I get a little frustrated with my tiny apartment kitchen. No counter space, no cabinet space, ancient stove. You get the idea. At least I really love my dishes! I have a little bit of an obsession with Fiestaware. I told myself I had to stop buying it a long time ago, but somehow my collection keeps growing, and I love it!

One of my favorite things to do is go to antique malls in Tennessee or Texas with my Mom and spot vintage pieces in colors that I don't have. Now, I just need to work on getting a kitchen that's big enough to hold it all!

Celerie Kemble Rooms

Check out some of these rooms by Celerie Kemble. She has a really fresh outlook. Nothing looks too contrived, or over-decorated. The first room, the office with the blue leather desk chair, is my favorite. I could work at a desk like that for hours and not even mind all that much.

Springtime Bedrooms

These bedrooms remind me of spring. They're all well-done in their own way. Everything about the last image reminds me of bedrooms that we do at my office. I prefer the first room. It looks effortless, even though I'm sure it took a lot of effort to get that way!

Card Night

Kane and I played a game of Phase 10 tonight when I got home from work. We've decided we need to do this more often. It reminds us of playing into the wee hours when we visit home. Good times.

Through My Window

Image sources unknown. (Sorry!)
Shutters make houses so sweet. I especially love it when the colors are so vivid. I couldn't personally live in a chartreuse house with turquoise shutters and purple grates, but I like the idea that someone somewhere thought that it was a good idea!

Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky

Image from Amazon.
I've managed to carve out more time to read lately than usual. And I'm so glad! It's so much fun to get wrapped up in a good book. Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky by Chris Greenhalgh is my most recent novel. It's about their afair in the 1920's which coincided with the creation of Chanel No. 5 and some of Igor Stravinsky's great symphonies. It's a good one.

Bunk Rooms

The idea of a bunk room for kids is really appealing to me. It's the perfect solution for grandparents who have lots of kids visiting on the weekends, or for friends or families that share a weekend or vacation home.

Some of these rooms even have a wall lamp at each bed that's individually switched. I would have loved that as a kid!

Refreshing Day at The Park

We took advantage of the beautiful warm day today at Central Park. Kane broke in our new mini propane grill with burgers and hotdogs. Kelley, Brian and Jachine stopped by for some burgers, too. An all-around good day.

It's amazing how a beautiful day can effect your mood!

Movie Night

Since Kane is slightly injured, I had a captive movie-watching partner tonight. He sat through a "girlie" double-feature with me and didn't complain at all!

We started with An Education, and then moved on to Nine.

An Education was really great. The story was interesting and I loved Carey Mulligan. And as a side note, the soundtrack was awesome. Nine on the otherhand was terrible!! Please do not waste your time watching it. The movie had every female star there is, got nominated for a bunch of awards - but I hated it! Oh well. 1 out of 2 ain't bad.

Never a Dull Moment

So it is 1am, and Kane and I just got home from the emergency room. Kane was riding his bike in the bike lane on 1st Ave when a crazy Chinese food delivery man on an electric bike came flying down the road going the wrong direction and smashed into Kane.

Luckily he's just really scraped and bruised up, with a sprained ankle and a really sore hip. It could have been a lot worse.

Some of you may not know that Kane was hit by an elderly man in a car a few months ago and walked away from that wreck without too many injuries as well.

I'm thinking it's time to retire the wheels for a while. But we'll see, I guess. And now ladies and gentlemen I am going to bed.

A Few More! I Can't Resist.

I've spent a lot of time posting about Logan and Logan's wedding this week. And I can't promise that this will be the last time! These pictures were taken by Jeff Bennett, a great friend of the Simmons. He did a fabulous job!

So Good!

If you haven't tried the limited edition coconut m&m's, you need to do it! They've only been available in certain parts of the US until recently. I was gifted some in my Christmas stocking this year and absolutely loved them, so needless to say I was pumped when I finally saw them today in the little shop by my office in NYC! As I've said before - sometimes it's the little things.
