We Own a House

Have you missed me? It's been a whirlwind week! We finally have a house of our own! We're finally done renting! We're the proud owners of a 1955 ranch with 1700 square feet, 3 bedrooms, 1.5 baths on a half acre. For those of you who are wondering, we decided to buy the fixer-upper in the good neighborhood with the great elementary school instead of the amazing house in the not so great neighborhood. It feels like it was the right decision for us. It's good to know that we can stay in this house for 10 years if we want, and not need to move to get into a better elementary school zone.

It needs so much love. I'll be honest, it's a little daunting. But our plan is to take on one project at a time, with little steps, until it's updated. I'm excited to share the progress we make with all of you!

Brief Hiatus

Hi everyone, I want to give you all a heads up that I'm taking a brief hiatus from the blog. I should be back online next week. Everything is fine and good, but there just aren't enough hours in the day right now! I need to eliminate something from the schedule to make it work, and blogging is the thing for now. Happy Birthday, Kane!

Happy 27th birthday, Kane! Man, we've done a lot since you turned 26. New town, new jobs, new friends. Thanks for yet another year of making me laugh and making sure I don't take myself too seriously. You are full of joy all the time, which is such a gift. I love you.

It's The Little Things

My makeup was in need of an overhaul. As you can see, I don't use anything fancy. I didn't go any further than the regular old drug store. But the little things are the best pick-me-ups!

Book Review - Prep

I managed to find time to finish another book! Yay! I'm not quite sure how, but I did it! Prep follows Lee Fiora through four years of boarding school and all of the trials, troubles and teenage angst involved. It took me back to my years at a boarding school (as a day student). High school was great, but man I would never ever go back! This is a great book and I really recommend it!

Industrial Design

I'm bringing industrial pieces to the forefront in one of my recent projects. I like that it gives a little edge to a room that could be too traditional otherwise. These are a few pieces that I've filed away recently.

Blogger and TV Updates

I'm still unable to leave comments on any of your blogs from my home computer. I've tried all of the "fixes" that I can find, but to no avail. Hang in there with me! I'm going to have to enlist some serious help this week if I can't figure it out on my own.

On a more positive note, a lot of you have been asking about our HGTV "My First Place" episode. I'm not allowed to say much about it, but we've started filming and we LOVE it! Kane and I are having a blast with our crew as we navigate the process of buying our first house. The main thing we've learned is that buying a house is an exhausting, exciting, fun, long process!

Flea Market Inspiration

I ventured into the cicada-infested Nashville Flea Market last Saturday to find inspiration for our soon-to-be new house. (More on that in the relatively near future!) I've heard designers say it, but never realized how true it is that when it comes time to design your own home it's twice as hard as a normal project. And not just because my budget is so minimal! After wandering aimlessly for a couple of hours, I decided that I'm going to have to move into the house and get a feel for it before I jump into any purchases. But, here are a couple of the cool furniture pieces I saw through the cloud of cicadas!

This vintage work table has an incredible blue-painted metal base.

Vintage drafting tables always catch my attention!

This metal-frame Kitchen island had enormous reclaimed castors and a beautiful wood top with lots of character.

Mis-matched metal barstools painted the same color are instantly unified. This vendor was going to sell me both for $45! But, this is an easy DIY project idea for the future...

This vintage glider is in terrible condition, but I love the idea of it. I'm a sucker for a good glider!
