Simple Chic Office

Image from Burnham Design.
The main reason I'm drawn to this home office is the sense that it's not too overdone. That's pretty much it. :)

Visitors!

We have company! We're so glad Brad and Rhonda are here! Dinner at Ricardo's was awesome and we got there early enough to have the choice table in the front window.

Eat Pray Love

I normally wait until I'm finished with a book before I post about it. But, I am half-way through this one and I cannot put it down. It is too good. I'm a huge fan of travel memoirs, and didn't even realize that that's what Eat Pray Love is until I happened into the Strand last weekend. Elizabeth Gilbert is the real deal.

More Than Your Average Garage

Images by Ira Lippke for the New York Times.
Check out this 250 square foot home in Seattle that was converted from an old garage. Michelle de la Vega acted as her own general contractor, and only spent $32,000 for the entire renovation. Hats off to her. Check out the New York Times article and more pictures here.

I'm So Excited!

Image from Martha Stewart.
...and I just can't hide it! We have company coming to stay with us this weekend and we cannot wait. It's been a while since we've had house guests. I think we need to do a little spring cleaning before Friday! We're so excited to see you Brad and Rhonda!

I Don't Think So

Image from Craftzine Blog.
Perhaps I'm being unreasonable, but I just don't think that I could serve this dessert with a straight face...what do you think? Can you tell I'm looking for things to make me smile today?

Three Things I Love

Image from House Beautiful.
Let me start by saying that I don't find this room from the May issue of House Beautiful exceptional. But, there are three things about it that I love.

1. The Viceroy Buffet from Baker Studio. This is a classic piece of furniture that's versatile enough to use in lots of different spaces.
2. The Massimo Vitali photograph above the buffet. If you aren't familiar with his beach photographs, check them out here.
3. The vintage-style 'Eat' metal sign. I have a green version of this same sign that says 'Relax' which I bought at a great shop called Toula in Athens, GA. It's hanging in my room at my parent's house, but come to think of it maybe it would be a nice reminder to have here...

Any opinions on this House Beautiful room by Melissa Warner?

Farmer's Market

You know it's spring in New York when there are more flowers for sale at the farmer's market than food! What a great way to spend the morning. I also hit Strand (awesome bookstore), Anthropologie and ABC Carpet and Home.

Food Inc.

Image from Food Inc.
I know that Food Inc. is kind of old news, so I won't go on and on about it. But, we just saw it this week, and all I have to say is 'holy crap, when's the farmer's market again?' There is some messed up stuff in our food. If you're like me and haven't seen it yet, I recommend you check it out. Maybe my Dad has the right idea about not eating chicken...

Mirrors and Antlers

Image found via Style Swoon.
This bedroom is a little rough around the edges, but I love the idea of the overscale mirrors flanking the bed. Combine that with the antlers and the blue bead board ceiling, and they've got a pretty good thing going on.

Welcome!

Welcome to new followers Shari, David, Sarah and Briman! Thank you so much for stopping by! Feel free to drop me a line anytime by comment or email.

The Graduate

Image from Fanomania.
Fair warning: now that we have Netflix you may start hearing about all of the great old movies that we're watching! First on the list was The Graduate. Neither of us had ever seen it before and I have to say that I loved it! Even if the movie had been terrible I probably would have liked it just because of the soundtrack.

Fresh Room Design

I came across these great lavender fabric and wallpaper samples from Studio Four NYC, and started picturing a fresh sitting room design revolving around them. I wouldn't paper an entire room in this trellis design, but I'd love to see an accent wall in it.
Samarkand rug from Doris Leslie Blau.
Reclaimed teak lamp table from Terrain.
Grayson chair from William Sonoma Home.
Crushed eggshell boxes from West Elm.
Pink crystal votive holder from ABC Home.

Philip Gorrivan

Images from Elle Decor magazine.
The new May issue of Elle Decor just came out, and I'm not very impressed with Ellen Pompeo's Hollywood home, but I love the Manhattan apartment of photographer Nathaniel Kramer, designed by Philip Gorrivan

The color photography in the kitchen and eating area is beautiful, and you all know how I feel about a great lavender bedroom!

Simple Bathrooms

Image from Burnham Design.
These bathrooms are the epitomy of simple and timeless. The powder room vanity is obviously a custom piece, but man is the look worth every expensive penny. It is just perfect with the tile floor and classic mirror. The second bath pairs white tub and white tile walls with an antique rug and cheap stool. Classic and beautiful.

A Dreamer's Den

Wow. I am feeling so flattered and grateful this morning. Anita from A Dreamer's Den (formerly Pillow Mint) has written a fabulous blog post today about me and some of the work that I've done. Her blog is excellent, be sure to check it out here

Blue

Image found via Belle Maison.
The combination of crisp light blue cabinets and deeper blue glass chandelier in this kitchen are spot on. It looks like a room where adults and kids can all feel right at home.

Strawberry Cupcakes

Sorry for the late post tonight!! Kane and I ventured out to Brooklyn for a birthday celebration and ended up getting stranded. It seems that the MTA decided that no trains needed to run back into Manhattan for the rest of the night! But, we finally made it back. Thank goodness.

These are a few fun pictures of the strawberry cupcakes and cake I made this afternoon. The cupcakes went to the birthday in Brooklyn, but the cake is just for us :) I love an excuse to use my Kitchen-Aid mixer!

Moroccan Wedding Blankets

I have no idea where I got this photo. Sorry, all!
Moroccan wedding blankets are so beautiful to me. They make great accessories and can be used as a throw, a wall hanging, a rug, etc. The ones below from L'aviva Home are gorgeous and up for grabs. Check out these Mexican bedspreads while you're there. I like them almost as much as the wedding blankets.

Vacation, Please

Image from MarcelGermain on Flickr.
After a day of work today that would make any normal person throw in the towel, I am being strong. Instead of focusing on my insane headache I am fantasizing about being here. Oia village on the island of Santorini, Greece. In this fantasy I'm choosing to ignore the fact that the Greek economy is on the verge of collapse. I'm just focusing on the scenery.

Speaking of Food Trucks...

So in case anyone was wondering, this is the gourmet food truck in my neighborhood. Hmmm... I think I'll wait and go for the Wafels and Dinges! There's just something about buying tacos from a truck that I can't wrap my head around. What do you think?

Wafels and What?

Image from Wafels and Dinges.
I saw the Wafels & Dinges truck for the first time today. It's this great yellow truck that serves Belgian waffles with all different kinds of toppings (dinges). I caught a glimpse of a few of their concoctions and they looked amazing!! Especially all of the different fresh fruit options. Check out their menu here. Next time I see that truck I am absolutely going to give it a try!

Perfectly Accessorized

Interior by Amanda Nisbet.
This bedside table by Amanda Nisbet is perfectly accessorized. It reminds me a little of this little number that I did while working for Campion Platt.
